Democracy?

Democracy. The idea that shaped humanity into what it is today. The idea that resulted in revolutions that completely changed people's perspectives. Democracy, the core of India and many many more countries. But what is democracy? as many of us know, It is the system of government where the population of the country vote for their own representative with the progress of the country in mind. Or so it was supposed to be. Has democracy degraded? Has the freedom, that has been given to the common citizen, been misused? Could we do anything to change it?
What about Dictatorship? Can a dictatorship run more efficiently than a democracy? or will the power eventually get to the sole leader's head?
Without democracy I might not even have had the freedom to type this, but then again, we never can tell what couldve been.
